Would it be a good idea to put a smoking section in movie theatres?

I'm old enough (Sadly) to remember the days when people could smoke in movie theaters. The smoke, oddly enough, didn't realize that it was supposed to stay in the smoking section, and instead drifted all over. There's no reason to go back to those days. If you need a cig, go out and smoke, and miss the film.

Would it be a good idea to put a smoking section in movie theatres?ballet

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Would it be a good idea to put a smoking section in movie theatres?globe theater opera theater

NO
Absolutely not. Unless they are enclosed in glass and the other people in the theater can't inhale their smoke. Maybe at a drive-in.
No, you would still be able to smell the smoke. They would have to have special theaters completely separate for smoking.
I'd say no too.
i think that it is not a good idea to have a smoking section in the movie theater beacuse there are a lot of kids that go to the movies.
No, I don't think so. The wat I see it, there is no such thing as a "smoking section". A movie theater is one big building with big rooms. The smoke would effect everyone, not just the person smoking. The same thing with resturants. One big space. The smoke goes into the air all over the building, not just in the one area where the cigarette or cigar was smoked. I don't know about other people, but if movie theaters smelled like smoke, it would make the experience of seeing a movie in a theater much less enjoyable, as smoke really bothers me. Good question, though.
No. I'm a smoker but if I can't go a couple of hours without a cigarette that really is my problem, not everyone elses.

Besides, with home theater sales burgeoning and movie theater ticket sales dropping, it wouldn't be worth the money it would cost to add special ventilation systems (and even then some of the smoke would still get to the non smokers).
No.You would still be able to smell the smoke.
Ummm.... let me think about that. NO!!!! Smoking is disgusting, why do you think it is being banned everywhere even in bars now???
yes. years ago I worked at a theater where there was smoking and non smoking. I think that those who get up and move and miss the movie to smoke makes me nutty
People used to be able to smoke in theatres and in restaraunts.!!! It would not be a good idea to add a smoking section at this point in anti-smoking culture. I stay home and am able to watch DVD's and VHS tapes. Net Flix is great!!!
NO! I would never go to the movies again.

Having a smoking "section" is like having a "peeing section" in a swimming pool.

If you can't go 90 minutes without a smoke, you are in danger of imminent death. You are wayyy more likely to have a heart attack or stroke, and other health problems. You probably stink within 10 feet of you. Your hair, fingers, clothes all smell like a bar.

Quit today. Even if you gain 20 lbs, it is not as unhealthy as smoking. And you won't.

I don't go to any restaurant that has a smoking section. I don't go to bars anymore for that very reason. I don't go to bingo or any casinos if there is smoking.

Only about 26% of US population still smoke. You are in the VAST minority and you are fast becoming a dinosaur. You know what happened to THEM!
No.

You couldn't contain the smoke...

The smoke would waft across the projection creating shadows on the screen.

Smoking should never, ever be allowed in theatres.

Is there a valid reason why people aren鈥檛 allowed to bring their own food to movie theatres?

I mean, I do it anyway, but grocery stores, video stores, drugstores, etc. don鈥檛 have signs saying that you can鈥檛 bring in outside food. Is it just because they want to sell you overpriced concessions?

Is there a valid reason why people aren鈥檛 allowed to bring their own food to movie theatres?sheet music

Of course-- if everyone brought food from outside, then no one would pay $8 for a bag of popcorn, and $5 for a glass of coke.

Is there a valid reason why people aren鈥檛 allowed to bring their own food to movie theatres?state theatre opera theater

you got it... they do not make their money on the tickets
Selling overpriced concessions is how most movie theaters make their money.
some theaters where I live let in outside food.

and yes, it is to sell what they have.
Yep that's pretty much it, think about it....who in his or her right mind would pay five bucks for pop corn and four bucks for a drink? if people were allowed to bring food they would run out of business
Obviously they want to have a profit selling you overpriced junk!
yeah, i think it's for the money mainly ... although, cinemas don't sell foil wrapped products 'cos of the rustling in the bag!!! there's nothing worse than having someone behind you who is digging their hand in to a bag of doritos every 2 seconds!!!
To answer your question, yes there is a valid reason. Those theatres, etc., make their money from the concessions not from the movies shown.
yes, they want a monopoly on their outrageous prices at the counter, and their prices are ridicious! its about an 100 % profit and i sneak stuff in too!
Yes, its because of the concessions. Movie theatres, suprisingly, don't hardly make anything from the actual movie sales. Almost all of that goes to the movie production company and the distributors. So almost all of the theatre's revenue comes from the sale of concessions. Weird, huh?
Yep. That is mostly the reason. The other reason is that they are worried that people will bring in foods that may offend other movie goers or the will bring full meals and make too much noise with packaging and then there are the health regulations to make sure someone doesn't try to sue them for "contamination" or food poisoning. If you have food already for sale and you do by chance have someone claim they are "sick" from eating at your theater, it will be easier to isolate and prove it was the theater and not their own food.
Exactly! I was just on a cruise to Mexico and they said to only buy from the American stores. Obviously they were self-promoting......
they want you to spend your money on their 10 dollar movie and 6 dollar hot dog 7 dollar pop corn and 6 dollar box of candy. oh and 3 dollars for a bottled water

and then u can have fun inbetween the movie
A drive-in sounds good.
Definitly at home...its so much better. You can talk about the movie if you want, its cheaper, and you can make your own snacks and make it fun.
Well home with a friend and a DVD...but a drive-in...not too many of those around anymore ...it has been at least 15 yrs...so maybe the drive-in......
I was going to say Drive-in, and then I saw that you typed it. I go there almost every week in the summer.

Can someone tell me when The Seeker (The Dark is rising) will be in NZ movie theatres?

It's probably not going to. The movie is already out on DVD.

That's a really, really bad film, so don't be disappointed if you don't get to see it.

When you are trying to squeeze in a tight area (movie theater) is it more polite to...?

Is it more polite to pass the person with your butt in their face or your crotch?

When you are trying to squeeze in a tight area (movie theater) is it more polite to...?ms stress

I've wondered that myself.

If I'm feeling generous, I pass them with my bubble-butt to their face ;)

I don't know which is more polite, but I always point my crotch away from their face. I don't want some dude checking out my junk!

I usually sit on the outside, so it doesn't matter...

When someone wants in, I just get up and let them in...

KFC is wrong period.
yes
heck no. That was good thinking.
Its only wrong if you get caught.
nope. as long as you don't get caught! I sneak in food all the time..
It was wrong of you to buy that nasty azz bowl in the first place!
Yes!~ Movie popcorn is better than KFC any day, yum yum! lol
No way, I've done that tons of times...it's really easy to do in the winter.
Nope that is a great idea not for the theater but for you
Thats a good Idea...but wont work I guess. They want to run their side-business as well....I hate that rip-off though..

Now they wont even let you take even your cell phone...at least in my area....I was not impressed at all......
I actually can't wait till lunch so I can have one. Of course you were in the right for doing this. Popcorn pales in greatness to the awesomness of KFC bowl.
No it wasn't.
no way jose!

KFC %26gt; $15 popcorn
Not if you are protesting the high prices, but you were probably in violation of the theaters no food or drink from the outside.
there ain't nothing wrong with that! Although i usually sneak in drinks... hehe.
cheap a...s....s
As long as the KFC bowl enjoys the movie.
if they don't know you bought it in.... we have a theatre here that dosen't care either way, that's cool.

I would stick to foods that don't stink up the place though, no strong odours
as long as it fit in your date's purse... not a prob... a bargain's a bargain...
I do it all the time. Movie snacks are much too expensive these days.

Sometimes I even pop my own corn and take it with me and I always take my own bottled water.
Yes, you are cutting in to my profits
nope perfectly understandable! just keep it hidden or everyone will want some.
Thanks! I just spewed coffee all over my screen!! That was funny.

How would you sneak one of those in?
You were simply being frugal. Why waste $15 for popcorn you can pop yourself? Although the movie theater may not agree with what you did, but I do. And so does everyone else, probably.
Nothing wrong that! I'd do the same. Who the hell would pay so much for freaking popcorn anyway?!
No.The prices at the movie are absolutly ridiculous. Also, some people dont like popcorn and candy, they would rather have their own snack (like you did). But they already get paid alot to screen the movie then from us buying 8 dollar tickets. So I would not feel bad at all
I would. I hate paying the prices just for popcorn and drinks at the flippin' movie theater.
how on earth did you sneak a KFC bowl into the theater? They should have given you free popcorn just for that :P

I always sneak food into the theaters - it probably isn't "right" but it's the only way we can all afford to go. *Shrugs* Lesser of two evils?
they charge $4.50 for a small water so no, it's not wrong. But you'll have to hide it someway, because I'm pretty sure they wont let you in w/ outside food

U gotta see if she's pretty first

so then yall could just chill
Watch the movie and perhaps lunch/dinner afterwards
First go for the old romantic thing... Bring her flowers and stuff like that. Buy her the ticket and buy her popcorn and candy. It'll give her the best first impression and please don't do that yawning thing that guys usually end up doing. Just ask her like a good boy, Like say is it okay if I put my arm around you? or something like that and may be she''ll like it... Just try it...
this is what i have to say ok im 14 and im a girl so you should just try to get to now her and just talk to her and staff and see were that takes you !

It depends which position you are working at. If cashier they will ask if you can give change. Simple stuff. Or if you get along well with others.
Usually employers ask questions like "why do you want to work here? What experience or skills do you bring to this job? Why should we hire you? What hours/days are you available? Would you be willing to work weekends, holidays, and evenings?, etc..." Those are some questions you should be prepared to answer.

Try not to be nervous, and answer the questions as honestly as you can, and you'll be fine. Good Luck.
dress nicely, look your interviewer in the eye when you speak (this shows confidence) speak clearly in complete sentences (this shows maturity and intelligence) greet your interviewer with a firm hand-shake, while looking them in the eye. Introduce yourself and keep your ears open. don't be over anxious to land this job. good luck!

Many libraries will have lots of material on what you want on vedio tapes there was government grant number of years ago, so see if this resource is still available. How you present yourself is biggest question: Hair well keep, fingernails trimmed clean neat clothes and shoes. if you have nice interviewer they start by asking how you are, and ask you to tell short summary of your life. Tell us about( your name) What experience do you have; Why do you want to work here? Tell us why we should hire you. As question given and style given you see a lot depend on personality of interviewer. If you can put together entry level resume this will help both of you.

Have parent or friend ask you questions and practice to help with jitters, but don't over pratice and come off as phoney.
well first off you are going to be working at a movie theater so ask yourself what they might be looking for in a person for that position.

Some ideas.

Dresses nicely(not a suite and tie mind you)

Speaks clearly

Clean Shaven

Good haircut

Has a good attitude.

For now this is all you should concern yourself with.
I wouldn't worry about it. Its not like you're getting a real job.

home video created on a pc to the reels used to project images on a big screen. any help would be appreciated. thanks!

Is there any way to transfer a home film I've created to the kind of reel-form video used in movie theatres?greek theater

first, lets clarify what you're trying to do.

a movie theater screen that shows videos will use basically the same set-up that you have at home. they typically show DVDs. And converting VHS to a DVD is simple.

you can burn a DVD from your pc (depending on your pc cd/dvd drive).

But it sounds like you want to go from a video format (NTSC) to a 16mm or 35mm print. Not all theaters can show 16mm prints. (Most film festivals can.)

yes, there is a way to convert your video to 35mm print, but it's a bit complicated. here's why.

NTSC video runs at 30 frames per second. 35 mm film prints

run at 24 frames per second. when you convert film to video, you typically repeat a couple of frames to prevent the speed of the picture to look like it was shot in fast motion.

to do the inverse, you will need to take frames out.

To do this, you need to configure your editing software so it knows what your final output will be. NTSC is U.S video. PAL is Europe's video format. You'll want to tell your software to create your film for a 35mm/16mm format - or 24 frames per second.

This is easy to do in Final Cut software. But I don't know what software you're using.

before you do this, get some info on what theater you plan on projecting this on. as mentioned earlier, many theaters and film festivals can accommodate video. converting video to film sometimes looks bad (unless you run some filters to adjust picture quality) - so you're not gaining anything by going to a print.

Plus, you'll need to pay a post production house to transfer the images which can be expensive.

Two places that can do that are: EFilm in LA and Digital Image in Burbank

it costs about $650 per minute.

see this article for more info.

hope this helps.

The movies that are out right now are Enchanted, Hitman, The Mist, This Christmas, Beowulf, Fred Claus, American Gangster, and the Bee Movie. I really don't think that the Bee Movie is for 14 year old girls, and you might not think Enchanted is either. I would reccomend Beowulf or The Mist.

There is a second version to the new Halloween movie?

I watched the newest Halloween movie in the theatre and then went to www.watchtvsitcoms.com to see if it was available. It was there so I decided to watch the movie again in the comfort of my home. To my suprise the vesion that is online is different from the version in theatres. The online version looks to be a directors cut and I can tell you, its a lot more graphic than the theatrical release! There are sequences in this version that are missing from the theatrical relaease. If you watched this movie in theatres and want to see the R rated version go to www.watchtvsitcoms.com and click on the movies tab, then scrool down a bit till you see the halloween poster, click on it and enjoy, its FREE and there is NO SIGN UPS at al.

It seems like you already answered your own question. Is this just an ad for your free movie download site?

I'm sure there will be a directors unrated cut of the film released to dvd soon enough. Then you won't have to download it, and you will get the bonus features, commentary, and decent picture and sound you can't get online.

Personally, I'd rather watch a movie on a big screen with decent sound than on my tiny computer through the crappy speakers. But that's just me.
i agree with the person above me the online version is better than the theater version because it just seems as though it fits better with the movie and the halloween series and surprisingly it shows pretty good

depends on what it is. i love comedies, so i'll go see it.

if its passion of the christ or whatever, HECK no.
***** give a shite
what is controversial?
I only see it if I want to see it, and I want to see it, if it looks like a good movie.

Ex. Borat, I want to see it, I don't give a care how controversial it is.
i illegaly download it asap, cuz im a cheap cheap basturd who enjoys movies, annie r u ok r u ok, im a smooth criminal
option 1
I wait till it comes out on DVD so I can watch it and if I like I buy it, its too expensive to go to movies these days, and plus I do not have time to go to the theaters any more with kids that act up every single day!
depends on what it is. i have never seen brokeback mountian and dont plan on it either, im not gonna see capote either. theyve been out for awwhile. so i guess i dont care if i know what its about anyway.
I dont care too much about movies these days as really, they typically are not that good.

Mostly if I want to see a movie, I'll wait for the DVD because my new plasma TV bigscreen and theatre IS AWESOME and I dont have to deal with other people at the movies.

I'd have to want to see a movie REALLY bad to go to the movies.

I dont care too much about controversy created by movies, because they are just movies.
It would depend on the controversy. Sometimes I may not want to see the movie even when it is released on DVD. I usually have my own oppinion about the subject matter and make my decisions if the movie is even worth the rental price. Like all of the Micheal Moore movies! Total crap!
I go see movies that look good to me. I don't really care how much controversy is surrounding it because I don't really think that people in the U.S. (where I am) are all that bright. I think the things in movies (nudity, violence, language, subject matter) that people tend to freak out about are just a part of the movie and should be judged personally, not by what the moron majority thinks. If a movie is good or bad, to me, it's not because it's too violent or too taboo a subject. It's because it's either a good or a bad movie in my opinion.

I prefer to think for myself.

I would suggest everyone else do the same....

enjoy the ride,

T
I don't care. If it looks like it would be a good movie i'll just wait for it to come out on dvd. It would be nice to see them in the theatres but it is hard to find some one to watch my five kids so I can take my wife out.
depends on the movie, if its something thats like stupid funny i tend to avoid it until my friends force me to watch it. Otherwise it's whatever strikes me as good that i'll watch.
dont care

I only go see a movie if I like the story or the actors in it

controversial films are usually incredibly boring or/and political ones and I cant stand them types :D
Wait for the DVD.

I hardly ever go out to a movie theater - our son can not stay home by himself, and hiring a baby sitter adds too much to the cost. So when I go to the movies, it is to a movie our son wants to see, and we might do that four or five times a year.

The last time I made a special effort to go out and see a movie that I wanted to see for myself was Fahrenheit 9/11.

have your phone go off in the middle of an intense scene, I threw a soda at a guys head for that a few weeks ago
Either extended cell phone call (hate that).

or

Bringing your child who's way too young to the movie and hearing this dialogue.

Why did they do that Daddy?

Not now sweetie.

If the person in front of me keeps talking or getting up to go out for some reason.........that is annoying!

yacking on a cell phone

don't these people know they are suppose to be turned off
fart..chew your candy to loud...slurp your pop instead of drinking it..people who put ther feet up on the seat in front..couples who try and sneak a feel or two...and the worst of all...people talk about the ending of the movie...to bad i dont carry a ray gun...beam me up apollo
Break wind and keep going to the concession stand....
a couple of things and maybe one of them that i'd pretend i haven't seen the movie yet and i'll ask a friend to watch it with me. then on the movie house i'll tell him/her what would happen in the movie. i'd tell the story of the movie and so on...for my friend and for those who will hear me talk that would definitely annoy them. teehee!
Remember the Rocky Horror PIcture Show and how everyone dressed up as the characters and spoke the dialogue all through the movie and did actions and danced in the aisles to the songs?

Well, do that in EVERY movie! Just match your outfit and dialogue to whatever movie you are watching, whether it's James Bond or the Bourne Supremacy or some crappy romantic comedy with Richard Gere.

If there's no songs, just dance along whenever they play incidental music during the movie - you can even do it during the advertisements and previews.
Use a cell phone and not politely leave the theatre.

Have a young child that continues to talk loud scream or cry during the movie

Use one of those laser pointers that really puts you off when your watching.

Those are some of the most annoying things that you can come accross in a theatre. i think so anyway.
Smoking in the theatre would be annoying as it is inviting the law officer in my country.
